Because when I’m looking for someone to exemplify the sacred institution of marriage and all of its lofty ideals, I ALWAYS ask the guy who “bravely” wouldn’t marry his Baby Momma.

Floating around the Book of Faces lately:

UGH.
Fucking REALLY?????
As a woman, my most pressing issue is the (erroneous) price of groceries*.
NOT receiving fair pay for the same labor.
NOT the rising levels of domestic violence and the casual, pervasive acceptance of rape culture in our society.
NOT my children being able to attend schools that teach real-world, USEABLE and accurate information instead of simply teaching them how to score well on standardized tests, and then being able to go on to an affordable, rewarding college education afterwards.
NOT being able to afford basic healthcare for my family.
NOT be able to afford the kind of genetic testing for cancer that Angelina Jolie revealed she underwent, because my insurance does not cover it.
NOT having my biological functions treated with the same dignity and priority by my insurance company as my husband’s are.
NOT being sure that my children will be treated the same under the law if they turn out to be gay as they would if they turn out to be heterosexual.
NOT being confident that my children will not face harassment, obstacles, and Jim Crow-like bullshit when they reach voting age because racially they look a little too “south of the border” for some people’s tastes.
FOOD PRICES are my main concern, Mr. President, because I have a uterus, and that’s “woman stuff”.
Anyone who posts ANYTHING suggesting that anyone thinks women are mainly after free abortions and condoms needs a punch in the reproductive bits.
There are no “Obamabortions” any more than there are “Obamaphones”, and to suggest that there are is lazy, stupid, sexist, partisan dumbassery of the highest level.
Do a little research before you post things.
Make sure your meme contains accurate information.
Just because it sounds good and confirms your own bias does not mean it speaks truth.
Don’t let your party loyalty and dislike of the person currently in the White House allow you to look like a total fool.
And never, EVER try to defend women from perceived insults to their intelligence and concerns by COMPLETELY INSULTING THEIR INTELLIGENCE AND CONCERNS.

THE END.
*Want a more realistic look? Go here and here and here, rather than a meme based off some crap blog post that doesn’t offer anything other than “I say so, so it MUST be true….religious people NEVER lie or have an agenda!”
There’s a cartoon making the internet rounds that compares Tim Tebow to Jason Collins.

There’s a Tweet going around, too:

I get what they THINK they are trying to convey, but here’s why it comes off as a whiny, self-indulgent false equivalence……….
BECAUSE IT IS A WHINY, SELF-INDULGENT FALSE EQUIVALANCE.
I have seen where some players, media and fans have said that perhaps Tebow should back off with the proselytizing, and have even thought so myself, but I have never heard anyone say that he should be fired for expressing his faith, nor have I heard anyone say that they would refuse to share a locker room or quit a team over it, or infer that somehow Christians are an insult to the sport or to “manliness”.
I have never heard anyone threaten a Christian player with physical harm simply because they are Christian.
I HAVE heard fans, players, and some media figures say that gay players should stay in the closet because they would not be welcome by teammates, fans, or management, and that their jobs would be in jeopardy if they admitted to being gay. I HAVE heard fans, players, and some media figures say they should stay in the closet because they would face physical danger on the field and off were they to be open about their homosexuality.
Just before the Super Bowl, San Francisco player Chris Culliver went on the record with the following statement regarding potential gay teammates:
“Can’t be with that sweet stuff. Nah…can’t be…in the locker room man. Nah.”
Thankfully, the team released a statement rebuking Culliver’s statements:
“The San Francisco 49ers reject the comments that were made , and have addressed the matter with Chris. There is no place for discrimination within our organization at any level. We have and always will proudly support the LGBT community.”
Culliver went on to apologize for his statement the following day, saying
“The derogatory comments I made yesterday were a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel. It has taken me seeing them in print to realize that they are hurtful and ugly. Those discriminating feelings are truly not in my heart. Further, I apologize to those who I have hurt and offended, and I pledge to learn and grow from this experience.”
Whether he meant it or was forced to make the apology is up for debate, but intended or not, Culliver put a very public voice on what has been whispered, if not shouted, for a very long time in professional male sports:
Keep that shit in the closet or you are done here.
Religion and sexuality have NO bearing on how well either man plays his sport, and they should have no bearing on whether either man stays employed or employable.
Tim Tebow may lose his job for sub-par performance, but he will never be legally fired for being Christian or heterosexual.
Jason Collins, and others who are still in the closet for all of these reasons, can not say the same.
By all means, Tebow fans, have and defend your opinions………………just be mindful that Christian privilege is everywhere, and saying two situations are equal does not make it is so.
Tebow is not Jesus, so don’t place him on a cross.

Home-state embarrassment and congressional candidate Mark Sanford has, by virtue of his Argentinian Appalachian Trail Adventures, found himself as the rather clever (and, inconvenient for his campaign) crux of a new billboard from Columbia, SC-based dating service, Ashley Madison.
AshleyMadison.com specializes in “ infidelity and married dating”, something Sanford knows a thing or two about. The company put up a new billboard on the Interstate 26 pathway through the state’s capital city, and it looks like this:

WELL PLAYED, ASHLEY MADISON.

Please, please, PLEASE share this with everyone you know.
Emily Paul is the daughter of an old high school friend of mine, and she disappeared from Southport, Florida on the same day that my father passed away.
She has been missing twelve days now, and her mother and family are beside themselves.

If you’ve never shared one of my posts before, PLEASE share this one.
Let’s get Emily home.
